Preparation of Natural Medicines and Directions for Use

  • Essential Oils and Synergies - these are essential oils and combinations of essential oils. When used in a vaporiser or bath, the essential oils evaporate and the aromatic molecules are inhaled through the nose to the brain and respiratory tract where they can have a direct action. In a bath, the essential oils act on the skin, and they are also absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and circulated around the body where they can also act.Vaporiser - eight drops are added to a candle or electric aromatherapy burner filled with water (or into a small bowl of water that has been boiled, or even onto a tissue and inhaled). Four drops are used for babies and children. Vaporisers should not be left unattended. Bath/Foot bath - eight drops are added to warm bath or four drops to a foot bath. In a baby's bath only one drop is used, and in a child's bath only four drops are used. Agitate the water to disperse the essential oils and soak the body (or feet if using a foot bath) for 10-15 minutes (5-10 minutes for babies and young children) before applying any other products to the water or body. Essential oils and synergies are concentrated plant extracts so they should not be applied undiluted to the skin. They are for external use only and should not be taken internally.

  • Body Oils- these are a blend of essential oils and plant oils that are used as a body oil. It is recommended that they are massaged into the skin every day after a bath or shower when the skin is hydrated and the pores are open to increase the absorption of oils through the skin into the blood stream where they can be circulated around the body. Body oils are also very beneficial for the skin and circulation. They are for external use only and should not be taken internally.

  • Blends - these are blends of flower essences, essential oils and plant oils that are stronger, more concentrated than body oils. They can be used as an all over body oil (preferably after a bath or shower to increase absorption of oils) ever day, or they can be gently massaged into a problem area (eg sore joint) three times a day or as often as needed. Gently massaging the affected area with the blend for a few minutes increases circulation, absorption of the oils and effectiveness. In chronic, painful conditions (eg arthritis), a covered hot water bottle can then be placed over the affected area to provide pain relief, increase circulation to the area and absorption of the oils. Blends are also very good to massage into the feet and lower legs after a foot bath. Putting on a pair of socks afterwards helps absorption of oils. Blends are for external use only and should not be taken internally.

  • Ointments- these are made from a combination of flower essences, essential oils, plant oils, botanical extracts and beeswax. They are gently rubbed into a problem area three times a day or as often as needed and are used for skin problems.
